City Year Columbus Opening Day

“Opening Day” modeled after the first official day of the baseball season is one of the most important ceremonies that City Year holds each year as we recognize the young adults who’ve made a ten month commitment to their community and officially launches them into their year of service.

During the last week in September and the first week in October more than 1,500 corps members in 21 U.S. cities will take their pledge of service to help students stay in school and on track at some of our nation’s most challenged urban schools. Please joins us during our two day Opening Day celebration:

On the evening of Thursday, October 6th, City Year Columbus’s Opening Day Celebration will begin at the Athletic Club of Columbus.  Held in the ACC’s beautiful Lounge Room, the event will start off with hors d’oeuvres and light refreshments followed by our Opening Day Ceremony. During this ceremony, 25 diverse young leaders will commit a year of service to keep Columbus Students in school and on track.

The following morning, Friday October 7th, City Year Columbus will be engaging community volunteer’s in a day of service.  This year, City Year has partnered with Como Elementary School and the Tray Lee Center.  At Como, City Year will be enhancing the school environment and promoting school pride by creating two unique murals including the school mascot, the Como Dragon

The Tray Lee Center, located American Addition Neighborhood, has had a long standing partnership with City Year.  City Year Columbus is looking forward to continuing to assist the Tray Lee Center in the amazing work they do supporting the American Addition Community and the American Addition garden.
